What Is Labiaplasty?

How much do you know about female anatomy? It’s time to get acquainted with the labia. When you look at the female genitalia, the labia are what you see. The labia minora and majora are the folds of skin and tissue that surround the vagina, together they are known as the vulva. The labia majora is the outermost portion of the vulva. It surrounds the labia minora.

Labiaplasty is a procedure that rejuvenates the labia minora or majora. It also treats uncomfortable symptoms of enlarged labia including rubbing, chaffing, painful sex, and chronic irritation.

We offer two different types of labiaplasty, surgical and non-surgical.

Non-Surgical Labiaplasty in Key West

Dr. Peterson performs non-surgical labiaplasty using Aviva. The treatment consists of guiding a small radiofrequency handpiece over the genital area. The energy stimulates collagen production and tissue remodeling. It also shrinks stretched out tissues.

Aviva is a quick treatment, usually completed in about 30 minutes or less. It is performed without anesthesia in one of our comfortable and discreet treatment rooms. At our practice, the treatment is performed by our highly skilled physician, Dr. George Peterson.

Surgical Labiaplasty

In surgical treatment, skin and tissue are carefully removed from the labia to reduce its size and alleviate symptoms.

There are many different techniques for labiaplasty. We’ll use the option that will provide you with the best results while minimizing scarring.

The trim method uses a long, continuous incision to trim away a strip of tissue from the outer edge of the labia minora. This technique is commonly used when patients are bothered by the dark pigmentation on the outer edges of the labia.

For a wedge procedure, a V-shaped wedge of tissue is removed, and the remaining tissues are sutured together. This procedure produces a very natural-looking result with minimal scarring.

Your procedure may be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Dr. Peterson will choose the option that is safest for you.

We customize the technique used for each patient, depending on their goals for surgery and anatomy.

Do I Need Labiaplasty?

There is great variation in the normal appearance of the female genitalia. Labia come in many shapes and sizes. If you’re comfortable and confident in how you look and feel, you don’t need labiaplasty. You may look different from what you see in pictures and movies, but it’s normal.

Labiaplasty is used when you’re not happy with how you look or feel. Enlarged labia can be very uncomfortable. Embarrassment over your appearance may be making it hard to enjoy intimate moments. Many women find their labia change after pregnancy and childbirth; they want to restore their appearance down there.

Contact us to learn about labiaplasty if:

  • You’re experiencing rubbing or chaffing during exercise due to enlarged labia
  • You’re embarrassed by the appearance of your genitals
  • Your labia are highly visible in some types of clothing
  • You have dark pigmentation on the edges of the labia that you want to remove
  • You want to improve sexual function or pleasure

Whether you’re interested in labiaplasty for its cosmetic or functional benefits (or maybe both), we’re here to help you explore your options. There’s no reason to feel uncomfortable or embarrassed. Labiaplasty is a common treatment, performed on many women across Florida and the U.S. each year.

Recovery After Labiaplasty

For a surgical procedure, plan on missing one to two weeks from work. Avoid sexual activity for at least six weeks. Non-surgical treatment usually requires minimal downtime. Most patients are back to work the next day.

Your feminine areas may be tender after treatment. Most patients won’t need prescription pain medication and can minimize any discomfort with over the counter medications. If you need something stronger, we can provide a prescription.

Faqs About Key West Labiaplasty

Non-Surgical

Downtime is minimal after treatment with Aviva. Most women return to work almost immediately with minimal interruption to their daily lives. The only activity restrictions needed are to avoid sexual intercourse and submerging in water for one week.

Results from Aviva are long-lasting. We recommend annual touch-up treatments for maintenance.

Your non-surgical labiaplasty will be performed at our office location. You’ll receive treatment in one of our comfortable and discreet treatment rooms.

Aviva only treats the external issues. For vaginal tightening, we offer a non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation treatment using Votiva.

We perform non-surgical labiaplasty with the use of anesthetics, which numb the treatment area and prevent pain during the procedure. Once the anesthetic has worn off, you may experience slight discomfort that may last for a few days after the treatment. Our team provides you with detailed aftercare suggestions to help you stay comfortable during this time.

The cost of your non-surgical labiaplasty may vary due to specific factors. After a personalized consultation, our team can provide you with a detailed breakdown of costs for your treatment plan.

Both non-surgical and surgical labiaplasty provide you with remarkable results. Depending upon your anatomy and goals, one of these approaches might be more suitable for you. During your initial consultation, our team will listen to understand your concerns and objectives before recommending which approach is a better fit for you.

Surgical

Incisions are carefully placed during surgical labiaplasty to camouflage and minimize scarring. Most women find that scarring is minimal and does not negatively impact the appearance of their labia. If you’re worried about scarring, our non-surgical treatment may be a good fit. It doesn’t require any incisions and leaves no visible scars.

Surgical labiaplasty is performed at a local hospital in a fully equipped, state of the art operating room. Most patients can return home the same day as their procedure.

Typically, you may need to take at least 1 week off work in order to recover from your surgical labiaplasty. This ensures that side effects like swelling, bruising, and soreness around the treatment area have subsided for the most part before you resume your professional responsibilities. Depending upon your overall pace of recovery during follow-up visits, our team will provide you with specific suggestions on how soon you can resume all normal activities.

You might feel mild to moderate soreness around the treatment area after your surgical labiaplasty. But you can find relief through over-the-counter medications. Our team may also prescribe medications to ensure your comfort during this period.

To ensure your comfort, you should avoid sexual activity for at least 6 weeks after your surgery. To prioritize your wellbeing, our team will provide you with personalized advice during your follow up visits on how soon you can resume sexual activity.
