Botox at Keys Med Spa
Botox® is the most popular cosmetic treatment in the United States, a trend that has continued year after year since this product was first introduced many decades ago. For many of our patients, Botox is the key to looking younger and feeling great. Why is Botox so popular? Ease of application (it just takes a few minutes), no required downtime, and stunning results are three reasons that our patients turn to this treatment time and time again.
What is Botox?
Botox is a Botulinum toxin used in small doses for certain medical conditions. Used for aesthetic purposes, Botox is noted primarily for its ability to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles by inhibiting muscle movement.
How Does Botox Work?
Botox works by interfering with the communication between facial nerves and muscles. Botox essentially stops the facial muscles that express emotions from contracting. Without these contractions, the wrinkles that have formed over the skin above them soften and fade.
Botox is highly effective. It is an excellent choice for treating crow’s feet, lines between the eyebrows, and forehead creases. It can also be used on some wrinkles around the mouth and on the lower face. The effect of this treatment is temporary. To maintain your smooth and refreshed appearance retreatment will be necessary every 3-4 months.
What Does Botox Treat?
BOTOX TREATS THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
Deep grooves in the forehead can create an angry and/or fatigued expression. Nearly every Hollywood celebrity over 50 has the smooth forehead that we all know comes courtesy of Botox.
Also known as the glabellar lines or “the elevens,” frown lines have a way of making you look perpetually angry. Botox relaxes the muscles under this area, easing these lines and preventing them from getting deeper. Men typically require more units of Botox when women because of the presence of larger, thicker facial muscles.
Happy people smile with their whole face, a wonderful, open expression that also leads to wrinkles spreading from the sides of the eyes. Botox relaxes the muscles in the area, preventing the skin from crinkling.
Relaxing the muscles under the eyes with Botox softens those fine lines that begin to accumulate with age. It can also lead to a more open expression.
With age, wrinkles begin to run from the side of the mouth toward the jaw, even pulling the mouth down into a frown. Botox stop this muscular action, easing the wrinkles and erasing that frown.

Botox is administered by injection, so you will feel a quick prick. Most patients aren’t overly bothered by this and find the treatment very tolerable. If you’re sensitive to injections or are worried about the process, let Dr. Peterson know. We can use a topical anesthetic if needed, although this can make the treatment take a bit longer. Discomfort during recovery is reported as minimal by most patients.
Recovery after your treatment will look much like any regular day. You can go to work and complete other daily activities with few restrictions. You may have a bit of tenderness, but this rarely interferes with life. Most patients experience some side effects, like bruising or redness. These peak in the first day or two and fade quickly.
Most of our patients are good candidates for this wrinkle-reducing treatment. If you want to rejuvenate, come see us to explore your options. Botox can be safely used with many medical conditions. Talk with us about your health and any medications you’re taking to ensure it is a good fit for you.
Serious side effects are very rare. Work with a skilled injector like Dr. Peterson to minimize the chances of a post-treatment complication.
Some patients experience bruising after Botox. You can reduce the chances and severity of bruising by avoiding medications that thin the blood (including aspirin and ibuprofen). Icing the area for 10 minutes several on treatment day can also reduce post-treatment bruising and swelling.
Botox is beloved by men and women throughout Florida and the U.S. Botulinum toxin treatments are commonly used by men that want to slow the aging process and retain a dignified masculine appearance. This is the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment for men in the U.S.
