What Not to Do After an IPL Treatment

You’ve probably heard the saying that the skin is a map of your life. It can tell an incredible story of places you’ve been, things you’ve been through, and the life you’ve led so far. Unfortunately, it can also tell when you’ve been in the sun without sunscreen, if you’ve had acne, and even your age. We all do our best to protect our skin throughout life, but sometimes there is no preventing the unfortunate effects life has on the largest organ in our body.

Fortunately, there are skin rejuvenating treatments like Lumecca IPL treatments that help to target specific areas of concern on your skin. After just one treatment of Lumecca at Key Med Spa in Key West, FL, you’ll notice amazing skin resurfacing results. Once you’ve fallen in love with how your skin looks and feels after your treatment, it’s important to protect your investment. Read on to learn what not to do after your IPL treatment to protect your skin and maintain your results.

What Is Lumecca IPL?

Lumecca is the most powerful IPL photo facial available. It uses a combination of precision light and heat to target and remove discolorations that differ from the surrounding tissues. During IPL treatments, the light waves target the pigmentations, and the heat destroys them. Over the next few days, your body will naturally dispose of the broken fragments, leaving your skin even, supple, and radiant. Dr. George Peterson chose Lumecca IPL treatments after intense research and much consideration. He chose its technology because of its incredible results after just one treatment. Dr. Peterson can use it virtually anywhere on the body, including the face, neck, décolletage, legs, arms, and hands.

What To Avoid After Your IPL Treatment?

Even though there is no downtime or recovery necessary with Lumecca IPL treatments, there are a few things we recommend that you NOT do after an IPL treatment:

  • Avoid direct sun exposure by wearing an SPF of 30 or higher. You should also wear protective clothing like a hat or visor. The treated areas will be sensitive to sunlight after your IPL treatment, which could potentially result in a painful sunburn and the return of skin damage.
  • Do NOT skip your moisturizer. As the skin heals after an IPL treatment, it may dry out and peel a bit as the top layer of the skin is exfoliated away. Apply a moisturizer in the morning and at night to encourage healing and keep the skin from becoming too dry.
  • Do NOT try to use a physical exfoliant. Physical exfoliants are scrubs, chemical peels, or even an abrasive towel. Allow any dead skin that may peel or flake off in the week following your treatment to fall away naturally. Trying to help exfoliate this skin before it’s ready can lead to scabs and scarring.
